LinkedIn Ads Report Formatting skill
The LinkedIn Ads Report Formatting skill is an organization skill in the Optimizely Opal Skills Directory. It transforms raw LinkedIn Ads data into ranked, dollar-quantified recommendations. Each recommendation says whether to scale, hold, fix, or pause a campaign. This replaces passive metric recitations with actionable decisions.
The skill applies to everyone in your organization when you choose Organization during configuration. Creating an organization skill requires the Manage Skills permission.
Skill details
The following details apply to this skill:
- Shortcut – /linkedin-ads-report-formatting
- Type – Organization skill
What the skill does
The skill does the following:
- Turns LinkedIn Ads data into ranked, dollar-quantified recommendations on which campaigns to scale, hold, fix, or pause.
- Compares each campaign's share of conversions with its share of spend. Quantifies budget reallocation, cost ceilings, and modeled return on ad spend. Return on ad spend is the revenue earned for each dollar spent.
- Starts every report with a bottom line, then a key performance indicator (KPI) table, campaign scorecard, dollar-ranked findings, and recommended actions.
- Reads data only. Opal recommends changes, and you apply them in Campaign Manager.
Before you begin
Confirm the following before you install the skill:
- You must have the Manage Skills permission to install this skill. If you do not, click Request in the Skills Directory to ask an administrator to install it.
- Connect LinkedIn Ads in Opal before you use this skill. See LinkedIn Ads connector tools.
- Have your answers and files ready. Opal asks for them during configuration.
Information Opal asks for
Opal asks for the following during configuration. Skip optional items if you do not need them.
- Business, Offer, and Ideal Customer Profile – What you sell, who buys it, and the firmographic and role profile of a qualified lead.
- Targets, Deal Economics, and Guardrails – Your KPI targets, such as cost per lead or cost per acquisition goals. Include deal economics, such as contract value, close rate, and margin, if you want Opal to model pipeline and return on ad spend. Enter "not tracked" if you do not have them. Also list guardrails, such as protected always-on campaigns and a maximum budget-shift percentage.
- (Optional) Supporting Document – A past approved report, which Opal matches for structure and tone. Alternatively, a media plan or ideal customer profile brief, which sets targeting, budget, and targets as the plan of record.
Install the skill
Go to Directory > Skills, find LinkedIn Ads Report Formatting, and click Install. In the Setup required dialog, click Set up in chat. Opal asks who the skill is for, Myself (Personal) or Organization. Opal then asks whether to answer the remaining questions in chat or upload a document. For the full procedure, see Install a skill that needs configuration.
Use the skill
After configuration, enter /linkedin-ads-report-formatting in Opal Chat to run the skill on demand. Opal also applies it automatically when your request matches its When to use conditions. Try prompts like the following:
- Audit my LinkedIn Ads account.
- Where is my money going on LinkedIn?
- Which LinkedIn campaigns should I scale or pause?
Things to know
Keep the following in mind:
- Opal judges a campaign only after it has 15 conversions and labels results from smaller samples as directional.
- Your uploaded file outranks your typed answers, and both outrank live data when they disagree.
- Opal does not report frequency, demographics, or native return on ad spend.
Update the skill
When Optimizely publishes an updated version, Update displays on the skill's card in the Skills Directory. Opal keeps the information you provided during configuration and asks only for anything the updated version adds. To correct answers that are no longer accurate, edit the installed skill. See Update a skill and Manage skills.
