Salesforce Report Formatting skill
The Salesforce Report Formatting skill is an organization skill in the Optimizely Opal Skills Directory. It ensures pipeline reports are accurate. Opal annualizes deal values, which converts them to a yearly amount. It also converts currencies at the line-item level before aggregating. Revenue figures are not overstated or misrepresented.
The skill applies to everyone in your organization when you choose Organization during configuration. Creating an organization skill requires the Manage Skills permission.
Skill details
The following details apply to this skill:
- Shortcut – /salesforce-report-formatting
- Type – Organization skill
What the skill does
The skill does the following:
- Answers revenue, pipeline, win-rate, and customer-count questions using your organization's own fields, picklists, and stage names, not guessed ones.
- Annualizes and currency-converts deal values at the line-item level before aggregating, so revenue is never overstated.
- Reports recurring and non-recurring revenue as separate lines for hybrid revenue models.
- Includes every won and lost stage value in its filters.
Before you begin
Confirm the following before you install the skill:
- You must have the Manage Skills permission to install this skill. If you do not, click Request in the Skills Directory to ask an administrator to install it.
- Connect Salesforce in Opal before you configure this skill. See Salesforce CRM connector tools. Opal inspects your Salesforce objects and fields during configuration.
- Saving the profile that Opal builds requires admin rights. If saving fails, Opal shows the completed profile so you can paste it into the skill.
- Have your answers and files ready. Opal asks for them during configuration.
Information Opal asks for
Opal asks for the following during configuration. Skip optional items if you do not need them.
- Revenue Model – Whether your revenue is recurring, transactional, usage-based, services, or a hybrid.
- Revenue Source-of-Truth Field – The name of the Salesforce field that holds your headline revenue number.
- Won Stage Vocabulary – Every stage value that counts as won, including split stages.
- Lost Stage Vocabulary – Every stage value that counts as lost.
- (Optional) Business Vocabulary – Role names, object nicknames, and product filters.
- (Optional) Records to Exclude – Records to leave out. If you skip this, Opal only excludes names that match "Test" or "Dummy".
- (Optional) Data Dictionary or Admin Field Guide – A file describing your fields. Opal still checks it against your live org.
- (Optional) Reporting or Metric Definitions, or a Real Report – A file that shows how you define and present metrics.
What happens after configuration
After configuration, Opal runs a one-time onboarding. It reads your Salesforce schema and asks you to confirm what it found. It then compares your stated stages with your real stage picklist, the list of allowed stage values. It also validates your field names and runs one live check query. Finally, it saves an org profile.
Install the skill
Go to Directory > Skills, find Salesforce Report Formatting, and click Install. In the Setup required dialog, click Set up in chat. Opal asks who the skill is for, Myself (Personal) or Organization. Opal then asks whether to answer the remaining questions in chat or upload a document. For the full procedure, see Install a skill that needs configuration.
Use the skill
After configuration, enter /salesforce-report-formatting in Opal Chat to run the skill on demand. Opal also applies it automatically when your request matches its When to use conditions. Try prompts like the following:
- What was our closed-won revenue last quarter?
- What's our current pipeline by stage?
- What's our win rate this year?
Things to know
Keep the following in mind:
- Opal applies this skill automatically when it uses Salesforce CRM connector tools.
- When you add a stage or product, you can update the saved profile with a single edit. You do not need to run onboarding again.
- Until onboarding finishes, Opal labels its answers as unverified.
Update the skill
When Optimizely publishes an updated version, Update displays on the skill's card in the Skills Directory. Opal keeps the information you provided during configuration and asks only for anything the updated version adds. To correct answers that are no longer accurate, edit the installed skill. See Update a skill and Manage skills.
