Datasets
Create datasets
Datasets are the primary artifact in the Analytics data model. They are logical views in Analytics that map to tables or views in your data warehouse and represent Event and Actor data.
Source dataset
A source dataset is a logical table from the data warehouse. When you connect to the data warehouse, you can map a database table, database view, or SQL query from the data warehouse to a source dataset within Analytics without physically transferring or moving data to Analytics.
Derived dataset
You can create a derived dataset by combining existing datasets (source or derived) to create a compound dataset. A fundamental distinction between source and derived datasets is that you define source datasets by mapping tables in the data warehouse.
Union dataset
A union dataset is a logical combination of multiple warehouse tables exposed to users as a single logical dataset. A typical use case for union datasets is to create a single logical event dataset from a set of event tables in the warehouse, one for each event type.
Column actor dataset
In Analytics, an actor is any entity in your business commonly used in analysis, such as a user, account, subscription, product, and so on. A dataset represents an actor – typically, this maps to a dimension table in the data warehouse.
