Search overview
Configured Commerce has many search capabilities to improve your customers' experience on your website. This article provides an overview of the types of search settings and how to configure them.
Understand search ranking and relevance
This article provides a non-technical overview of the components that affect search results rankings. By understanding these components, you can improve how your content shows in customer search queries.
Filter and search within results
You can filter an existing search query to refine the results based on various search terms and/or product attributes, such as by Categories and Price . The filters display dynamically based on the attributes and attribute type setting of the products found in the original search query.
Understand indexing
The Indexing page provides access to the search indexes, their status, and options to perform a Quick (Partial) Rebuild or Full Rebuild for products. A quick rebuild updates product records that have changed at the base level, not including changes to the product's child items, such as category or attribute assignments.
Configure autocomplete, autocorrect, and DidYouMean
When a user enters three characters into the search field to search for a product, they trigger the autocomplete functionality. Autocomplete refines results more accurately as the user enters more characters.
Create search term redirects
Search term redirects are different from HTML redirects, which maps old website pages to an equivalent page on the new site. Search term redirects put users on a specific page with products or content relevant to a common search term.
Add stopwords and synonyms
Stopwords are the common words in language that are ignored when included within a search query. B2B Commerce has a default set of stopwords already included, but you may want to add additional terms to exclude from search query processing.
Enable Ngram indexing
You should show search results when there is a partial match of a product or manufacturer number. With Ngram indexing enabled, searches for partial matches that meet the character lengths of the minimum through maximum Ngram length return results for products with the entered search string within their product number or manufacturer item.
Boost or bury items in search results
This article provides general descriptions and instructions for how to boost and bury search results. For more detailed descriptions and explanations on the impact of boosting and burying, review Understanding Search Ranking and Relevance.
