You can configure bounce rate and exit rate metrics on [pageview events](docId\:gq5wzoPd77xOJwNSfxqm8) and then add them to new or already-running experiments. See [Bounce and exit rate metrics](docId\:ZNw3FvHTBv1wh4QbOh708) for information.

**Note**

When you add bounce or exit rate metrics to a running experiment, they are calculated retroactively, back to the beginning of the experiment.
:::

## Add bounce rate or exit rate metric

1. Select an experiment or campaign, or create one.
2. Click **Metrics**.
3. Select the pageview event you want to use as a metric.
4. Select **Decrease** as the winning direction. Typically, the goal is to decrease bounce and exit rates by making your website more engaging.
5. Select **bounce rate** or **exit rate** from the measurements drop-down list.
6. Click **Save**.
