The **Optimizely API** lets you create and manage Feature Experimentation projects, audiences, and environments. You can use the Optimizely API for other types of Experimentation projects, such as [Web Experimentation](docId:1dLEYI3XpG0gwe0yaBzp4) and [Full Stack (Legacy)](docId:6_ik6SSz-WyJLWuCQw7BT). Because of this, not all endpoints are available in Feature Experimentation.

You can use the **Optimizely API** to manage

- audiences based on information collected from your Data Management Platform.
- projects from an internal system.
- events and metrics to track usage.

## Use the REST API

To use the **Optimizely API**, you must authenticate by generating an API token. See [Generate tokens and use the REST API](docId\:pQfa5KPTbmy6crey-nsrd) for information on how to generate API keys.
