[Entra ID](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/)  (formerly Azure AD) is Microsoft's multi-tenant cloud-based directory and identity management service. Entra ID provides single sign-on (SSO) access to many cloud-based SaaS applications, and includes a full suite of identity management capabilities.

[OAuth](https://oauth.net/) is an open standard for authorization used by Entra ID. [OpenID Connect](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/develop/active-directory-protocols-openid-connect-code) is built on top of OAuth and extends it. You can use [OpenID Connect](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/develop/active-directory-protocols-openid-connect-code) as an authentication protocol rather than just an authorization protocol.
