The template consists of the following modules:

- [Measure module](docId\:JSz8a3nY7QACN-zBBnufm)
- [Segmentation module](docId\:JSz8a3nY7QACN-zBBnufm)
- [Filters module](docId\:JSz8a3nY7QACN-zBBnufm)
- [Visualization module](docId\:JSz8a3nY7QACN-zBBnufm)

## Measure module

The measure module contains a **+** icon that lets you choose a measure to calculate for the selected events and segments. You can reorder the measures you add to the module using drag and drop.

![opti-ue-7.png](https://api.archbee.com/api/optimize/BrbvVORKJ5iIeSMZye5kI/mYRmx9h5ImbknhJkhRNW5-20260720-144853.png)

The following measures are available in the template:

- **Aggregate** – Aggregates a specific column.
- **Event Aggregate** – Lets you use the measure portion of the [event segmentation template](docId\:Di9ODnT_GDGsGtYkp3oiG) anywhere else in the product. This includes other explorations, metrics, [derived columns](docId:1wi6-v9k1O0weCWNUPCsS), and [cohorts](docId\:qqERbaNW3LL9kPlSp27Lr).
- **Metric** – Adds a metric from the [catalog](docId\:eD4_X8KtD2cLqebOWR7Fl) or a custom block.
- **Formula** – Lets you write custom logic using formulas.

Inside the measures module, you can enable [period-over-period comparison](docId\:HDtWHMfCeR7T2WLF_v1zw) for each measure by clicking the **over time** toggle next to **Measure**.

### Rename, duplicate, or delete a measure

Duplicate a measure to build a variation of it without re-creating its configuration. For example, duplicate an **Aggregate** measure that sums revenue. Then change the [aggregator](docId\:odSeXZ9cgO4VNQ2lskv71) in the copy to **avg** to compare total and average revenue.

Each measure in the measure module has a **More** menu with options to rename, duplicate, or delete the measure.

1. Click **More (...)** on the measure.
2. Select one of the following options:
   - **Rename** – Change the name of the measure. This option is available only for measures that use a block. Metrics added from the catalog keep their catalog name.
   - **Duplicate** – Add a copy of the measure directly after the original.
   - **Delete** – Delete the measure from the exploration. Analytics does not delete the block behind the measure.

![The More menu on a measure, showing the Rename, Duplicate, and Delete options](https://api.archbee.com/api/optimize/BrbvVORKJ5iIeSMZye5kI/h5zNKZJTfNPi3JNgba2Kv_click-more-select-rename-duplicate-or-delete-universal-measure-block.png)

When you duplicate a measure that uses a block, Analytics does the following:

- Creates a separate copy of the block, so changes to the copy do not affect the original measure.
- Names the copy after the original and adds **(copy)**, such as **Revenue (copy)**. If another measure uses that name, Analytics adds **(copy)** again.
- Keeps any references to other blocks. For example, a copied **Formula** measure uses the same input blocks as the original.

When you duplicate a metric added from the catalog, the copy references the same catalog metric.

## Segmentation module

This module lets you choose a cohort of actors, such as users, or one or more attributes to include in the analysis. It has two sub-sections: **Segment by Cohort** and **Group by Property**, which let you add cohorts and attributes. You can create a cohort by choosing an existing cohort from the drop-down list or using the **+ New Cohort** option to create a [behavioral cohort block](docId:6Dwq7idzTC03vCv-J8ofv) in one click.

## Filters module

You can use [filters](docId:3xNkZyK2fRAbjZkOpLxm8) to narrow down data in a visualization. They make it easier for you to answer exploratory questions. For example, if you want to see results for a specific region, you can define a region filter and see the narrowed-down data.

Analytics also lets you choose **JSON** columns in this module. When you click a JSON column, it expands to display the available keys for that column. You can choose a key and click **Apply**. When this is done, the selected end key is chosen as the display name for that column.

## Visualization module

The visualization module lets you run and view the analysis. It lets you edit [visualizations](docId\:uWuyNe6pu-1kGDqHlf0RP), examine the underlying SQL query, and add the chart to a [dashboard](docId\:giGhHNmkXnZv8Df87ShdT).

The following features are available in this module:

- **# and %** – Lets you switch between numbers and percentage values on the chart.
- **Top 'N' segments** – Lets you choose the number of top segments to display in the visualization.
- **Time Range and Time Grain** – Lets you configure time range and time grain for the analysis.
- **Sampling** – Lets you configure sampling and responses for the analysis.
- **Edit visualization (Other actions)** – Lets you inspect a query, edit visualization, add an analysis to a dashboard, and download it as CSV.

### Switch between numbers and percentages

These options let you switch the values on the Y-axis from absolute values to percentages and vice versa in one click. This feature is useful when dealing with multiple segments, as using absolute values lets you see a clearer breakdown of how many individuals are in each segment.

### Time range and time grain

**Time Range** refers to the complete period during which events are considered for the analysis. Examples include the last two years or the time range between two specific dates. **Time Grain** refers to the granularity of analysis, such as Daily (1 day), Weekly (7 days), and so on.

You can set the time range using a simple drop-down list or even choose from the quick options and iterate through different choices of time range and time grain without leaving the chart. It is also possible to set a lag using the **Ending** option.

### Sampling

In the visualization module, you can configure [sampling](docId\:kbzX-2AF74D1lQwBvoww4) modes for your exploration by clicking the lightning icon. The drop-down list displays two sampling modes: **Enabled Faster Response** or **Enabled Higher Precision**.

### Edit visualization section

Clicking the three dots next to **Sampling** displays a drop-down list with four options: **Inspect Query**, **Add to Dashboard**, **Edit visualization**, and **Download As**.

- **Inspect Query** – Opens a query inspector. It has three tabs: **SQL**, **Warehouse SQL**, and **NetScript**. You can change the [SQL](docId\:oAsxeEwYAKJQ-GEzoaXtC) and [NetScript](docId\:WR0bZ1UaE2iEUOqbPHfN_) queries by clicking the **Open as SQL Explore** and **Open as NetScript Explore** buttons in the respective sections.
- **Add to Dashboard** – Add the exploration that you have created to a dashboard. You can choose from two options: **Pick a dashboard** or **New Dashboard**.
- **Edit visualization** – Displays the chart settings with two sub-sections: **Data** and **Style**.
  - **Data** – Information about the X and Y axes, and lets you select and customize the data you want to display on the chart axis.
  - **Style** – You can configure the following:
    - **Display legend** – Control the display of the legend on the chart.
    - **Legend position** – Configure where you want to position the legend. The options available are **Top**, **Bottom**, **Left**, and **Right**.
    - **Stacked chart** – Enable this option if you want to see values for different categories stacked on top of each other within a single bar or along a single axis.
    - **Compact layout** – Create **Sparklines** to visualize trends across multiple measures with compact, in-line charts to spot patterns and gain insights at a glance.
    - **Tooltip mode** – Configure the tooltip position. The options available are **Nearest**, **X-axis**, **Y-axis**, and **Index**.

- **Download As** – Download your analysis in **CSV** or **EXCEL** format. The column formatting is preserved for the downloaded files as well.
