The **Org Chart** skill is an org skill in the Optimizely Opal Skills Directory that maps your team's structure, responsibilities, and escalation paths so anyone can quickly identify the right person for any task or decision.

It applies to everyone in your organization. An administrator installs and configures it once.

## Skill details

- **Shortcut** – `/org_chart`
- **Type** – Org skill
- **Setup** – Required

## What the skill does

- Answers "who do I go to for this?" from your own ownership map, with a source and a High, Medium, or Low confidence on every answer.
- Routes requests to the right team's front door with a list of what to bring, and drafts requests and escalations.
- Builds stakeholder maps for work that spans teams, and handles approvals and escalation paths.
- Never invents a person, reporting line, or contact detail. People matters go to a confidential route or your people team.

## Before you begin

- You must have the **Manage Instructions** permission to install this skill. If you do not, click **Request** in the Skills Directory to ask an administrator to install it.
- If a people directory or HR tool is connected, Opal uses it ahead of your uploaded chart.
- Have your answers and files ready. Opal asks for them during setup.

## Information Opal asks for

Opal asks for the following during setup. You can skip optional items.

- **Your Organization at a Glance** (Required) – Team vocabulary, structure, house norms, and the owner who receives gap notes.
- **Who Owns What** (Required) – One ownership or approval line per entry, including thresholds, regional contacts, and notice periods.
- **Org Chart or Team Directory** (Optional) – Remove personal and sensitive data first, and include the export date. Without it, Opal names teams and front doors only.
- **Escalation Paths** (Optional) – One per line. Defaults are three severity levels and a ladder of front door, follow-up, team lead, and common leader.
- **Sharing Limits and House Rules** (Optional) – Rules that can only tighten privacy.

## Install the skill

1. Go to **Directory > Skills**.
2. Find **Org Chart** and click **Install**.
3. In the **Setup required** dialog, click **Set up in chat**.
4. Answer Opal's questions and upload any files it asks for.
5. Confirm the details when Opal asks.

For details about browsing, installing, updating, and uninstalling skills, see [Skills Directory overview](docId\:jw_PeWvKOXocy3ihL5h9w).

## Use the skill

After setup, enter `/org_chart` in Opal Chat to run the skill on demand. Opal also applies it automatically when your request matches its **When to use** conditions. Try prompts like the following:

- *Who needs to sign off on a pricing test?*
- *This request has stalled with the data team. How do I escalate?*
- *Who do I go to for a new data access request?*

## Things to know

- An uploaded chart is a snapshot. Upload a new one to refresh it. Answers lose confidence when the export date is older than 90 days.
- Opal can't remove personal data from an uploaded chart. It stays in the skill's context.

## Update the skill

When Optimizely publishes a new version, **Update** displays on the skill's card in the Skills Directory. Opal keeps the information you provided during setup and asks only for anything the new version adds. See [Update a skill](docId\:jw_PeWvKOXocy3ihL5h9w).
