The **Ideal Customer Profile** skill is an org skill in the Optimizely Opal Skills Directory that captures your key buyer personas and ideal customer profile so every piece of content and outreach is grounded in the right pain points, motivations, and problem-solution framing.

It applies to everyone in your organization. An administrator installs and configures it once.

## Skill details

- **Shortcut** – `/ideal-customer-profile`
- **Type** – Org skill
- **Setup** – Required

## What the skill does

- Maps each request to one buyer persona and a deal role, such as economic buyer, champion, technical evaluator, daily user, or gatekeeper.
- Writes outreach, call prep, discovery questions, account briefs, content angles, and objection handling for that persona, staying inside the problems you configured.
- Grades accounts as Priority, Pursue, Nurture, Watch, or Out.
- Uses numbers and customer names only from your approved proof points. Without them, claims are marked as needing a proof point.

## Before you begin

- You must have the **Manage Instructions** permission to install this skill. If you do not, click **Request** in the Skills Directory to ask an administrator to install it.
- Have your answers and files ready. Opal asks for them during setup.

## Information Opal asks for

Opal asks for the following during setup. You can skip optional items.

- **What You Sell and Your Ideal Customer** (Required) – Your offer, your ideal customer, and the intent signals your team tracks. Opal matches signal names exactly.
- **Personas You Sell To** (Required) – One persona per line.
- **Problems You Solve and How** (Required) – Problem and solution pairs, one per line. This is the limit for every claim Opal makes.
- **Persona or ICP Document** (Optional) – A persona deck, win/loss notes, or call summaries.
- **Approved Proof Points** (Optional) – Figures and customer names Opal may use.
- **Who You Compete With** (Optional) – If you skip this, Opal positions against four generic alternatives and names no vendors.
- **Anything Specific to Your Team** (Optional) – Terminology, tone, and competitor naming rules.

## Install the skill

1. Go to **Directory > Skills**.
2. Find **Ideal Customer Profile** and click **Install**.
3. In the **Setup required** dialog, click **Set up in chat**.
4. Answer Opal's questions and upload any files it asks for.
5. Confirm the details when Opal asks.

For details about browsing, installing, updating, and uninstalling skills, see [Skills Directory overview](docId\:jw_PeWvKOXocy3ihL5h9w).

## Use the skill

After setup, enter `/ideal-customer-profile` in Opal Chat to run the skill on demand. Opal also applies it automatically when your request matches its **When to use** conditions. Try prompts like the following:

- *Write a cold outreach opener for a VP of Marketing at this account.*
- *Run an ICP fit check on these accounts.*
- *Prep discovery questions for a call with a CFO.*

## Things to know

- Opal can't update this skill's answers by itself. When it notices a contradiction in conversation, it tells you, and someone must edit the skill.
- Without a connected research or CRM tool, fit checks list the gaps instead of filling them.

## Update the skill

When Optimizely publishes a new version, **Update** displays on the skill's card in the Skills Directory. Opal keeps the information you provided during setup and asks only for anything the new version adds. See [Update a skill](docId\:jw_PeWvKOXocy3ihL5h9w).
