The Google Ads Report Formatting skill is an organization skill in the Optimizely Opal Skills Directory. It turns raw Google Ads account data into a prioritized audit of what to pause, scale, and fix. Each action shows its estimated dollar value.

The skill applies to everyone in your organization when you choose **Organization** during configuration. Creating an organization skill requires the **Manage Skills** permission.

## Skill details

The following details apply to this skill:

- **Shortcut** – `/google-ads-report-formatting`
- **Type** – Organization skill

## What the skill does

The skill does the following:

- Compares findings to your own targets first, then to labeled industry figures.
- States the account currency, and says plainly when data is unavailable instead of estimating it.
- Reports return on ad spend, the revenue earned for each dollar spent, only when conversion value is tracked.

## Before you begin

Confirm the following before you install the skill:

- You must have the **Manage Skills** permission to install this skill. If you do not, click **Request** in the Skills Directory to ask an administrator to install it.
- Connect Google Ads in Opal before you use this skill. See [Google Ads connector tools](docId\:JiNgmE32vFNO8mGMuRB9Z).
- Have your answers and files ready. Opal asks for them during configuration.

## Information Opal asks for

Every input is optional. If you skip all of them, Opal still produces an audit from your account data.

- (Optional) **Business Context** – What your business does. If you skip this, Opal acts as a general paid search strategist.
- (Optional) **Account Structure** – How your campaigns are organized. If you skip this, Opal infers brand and non-brand campaigns and labels them as inferred.
- (Optional) **Targets and Unit Economics** – Your targets and deal economics. If you skip this, Opal uses labeled industry benchmarks and does not model return on ad spend.
- (Optional) **Standing Rules** – House rules that Opal treats as hard constraints.
- (Optional) **Report Sample** – A sample report. Its section order and headings outrank the default format.

## Install the skill

Go to **Directory > Skills**, find **Google Ads Report Formatting**, and click **Install**. In the **Setup required** dialog, click **Set up in chat**. Opal asks who the skill is for, **Myself (Personal)** or **Organization**. Opal then asks whether to answer the remaining questions in chat or upload a document. For the full procedure, see [Install a skill that needs configuration](docId:_h-waPhN8ts841qNQnhzl).

## Use the skill

After configuration, enter `/google-ads-report-formatting` in Opal Chat to run the skill on demand. Opal also applies it automatically when your request matches its **When to use** conditions. Try prompts like the following:

- *Give me a pulse on my Google Ads account.*
- *Cut the fat from my Google Ads campaigns.*
- *Audit my Google Ads and tell me what to pause or scale.*

## Things to know

Keep the following in mind:

- The skill applies one configuration across your whole organization. Agencies and organizations that manage several accounts cannot set per-account targets or rules.
- Opal does not provide bid recommendations, forecasts, change history, or auction insights.

## Update the skill

When Optimizely publishes an updated version, **Update** displays on the skill's card in the Skills Directory. Opal keeps the information you provided during configuration and asks only for anything the updated version adds. To correct answers that are no longer accurate, edit the installed skill. See [Update a skill](docId:_h-waPhN8ts841qNQnhzl) and [Manage skills](docId\:nsSgCk7YZ5kHj0x6ma75P).
